E’ davvero interessante il progetto Al-Kemi Split vol. 1, innovativa pensata della factory di Al-Kemi, per l’appunto, laboratorio fondato da Gianni Maroccolo (ex Litfiba, CCCP, CSI) che vede l’uscita di uno split album con due band emergenti unite nello stesso supporto CD: i BASTIAN CONTRARIO (two-man-band campana) e i DIVERBA (giovane rockband piemontese). Un’idea riconducibile a quelle uscite di etichette indipendenti come Sub Pop, SST, che univano singoli di gruppi diversi a scopo promozionale, ma che in questo caso, la Al-Kemi spinge più in là pubblicando curiosamente, due interi album molto diversi in un’unica riuscita soluzione. I Bastian Contrario con il loro “Due il contrario di uno” hanno uno stile cantautorale con forte infuenze alla Csi e Marlene Kunz, ma con
un suono ricco e decisamente sperimentale fatto di tamburi, fiati archi, fisarmonica (astutamente modificata!), chitarra e mandolini, capace di passare da orchestrazioni imponenti e complesse, a soluzioni intime, o goliardiche e coinvolgenti sempre con la medesima intensità. Incredibile pensarli solo due, vien voglia di vederli dal vivo questi ragazzi. Un duo ecclettico che si occupa anche di arti visive a tutto tondo, visto che sono anche registi del loro primo video e a Fausto
Tarantino è stata affidata la creazione della deliziosa copertina dello split album. Ha invece sonorità e assetto più rock “Per chi tace” dei Diverba, che si avvalgono, tra l’altro, dell’uso di synt, risultando davvero interessanti anche in brani più raccolti al pianoforte. Il riferimento più immediato che salta all’orecchio, seppur non renda l’idea di tutto il complesso della band, li fa accostare ai Verdena, forse per un’espressione melodica tormentata e intensa, nel cantare storie, pensieri e stati d’animo.
Un’ottimo progetto, come dicevo, questo Al-Kemi Split vol.1, che si suppone e si spera avrà un seguito altrettanto riuscito e che è bello pensare possa essere la fucina da cui possano partire band di qualità come queste.

An idea that reminds the outputs of independent record labels like Sub Pop, SST, joining singles of different bands for promotional purposes, but in this case, the Al-Kemi goes further, curiously publishing two entire albums so different, in a successful solution. Bastian Contrario with their "Due il contrario di uno" have a
songwriting style with clear influences like CSI and Marlene Kunz, but with a rich and experimental sound made of drums, horns, strings, accordion (cunningly modified!), guitar and mandolins, that goes from massive orchestrations and complex solutions to intimate or engaging and goliardic sounds even, always with the same intensity. Incredible to think they’re only two. Need to see them live! An eclectic duo that also deals with visual arts, as they directed their first video and Fausto Tarantino has created the delightful cover of the split album. More rock is the sound and approach of Diverba’s "To those who keep silent", making use, among other things, of synt, very interesting even in songs collected over the piano. The most immediate reference that skips the ear, though not render the idea of the whole complex of the band, make them accost to Verdena, perhaps for their tormented and
intense melodic expression, singing stories, thoughts and moods. An excellent project, as I said, this Al-Kemi vol.1 Split, which, I hope, is supposed to have a following with equally successful results,
because it’s good to think it could really became the factory for quality bands like those two.
