We Rock Like Girls Don’t sono un duo femminle (chitarra e batteria) proveniente da Londra.
E’ uscito nel 2009 il loro debutto “How Did It Get To This”, e attualmente in fase di registrazione del nuovo album, le due riot girls, femministe e provocatrici, sono venute in Italia per un mini tour a provare il nuovo materiale live, approdando domenica 1 aprile al Level Music Club di Ancona.
“Still Believe” segna fin da subito il loro carattere energico, la qualità tecnica, ma anche il tanto, tanto cuore della band. Un rock rumoroso e arrabbiato caratterizzato dalla bravura di Vas Antoniadou alla batteria, perfetta nei suoi attacchi violenti alternati a improvvisi cambi di ritmo, anche nella successiva “Don’t Know What Love Is”. “Violence” che apre il loro primo album è sinuosa e sporca. Si sentono tutte le loro influenze più importanti, dalle Sleater Kenney alla P.J. Harvey prima maniera, tanto che la voce e l’interpretazione di Ros Cairney la riporta immediatamente alla mente. “Feeling Lonely Now” dall’inizio apparentemente quieto, esplode aggressiva in una combinazione delle due voci che si miscelano perfettamente, e “Welcome to My World” sono due nuove release registrate per il prossimo album a Seattle con il produttore John Goodmanson (Blonde Redhead, Sleater Kinney, Bikini Kill, Death Cab For Cutie, Pavement, Soundgarden). Proseguono in maniera sempre coinvolgente con “Queen of Heavy Metal” e ancora con “Something Out of Nothing”, questa registrata con il produttore Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers) a Rockfield, dimostrandosi travolgenti e particolarmente attente alla struttura delle canzoni. Rock puro e sporco quello di “Out Of My System” una potente cavalcata rabbiosa alla Motorhead. Non sembra di sentir suonare due ragazze. Lo sfrontato rock’n’roll di “Out Of Control” e “Bass Drum” sono canzoni da urlare in auto a finestrini aperti in corsa verso l’orizzonte.
Ma l’interpretazione di Ros si fa anche più inquieta e pericolosa come chi non ha paura di niente perché non ha più niente da perdere in “Do I Have to Scream”. Una band che suona con passione, dalle ritmiche nervose, una chitarra sferragliante e una voce versatile che va dall’urlato violento delle
emozioni a un melodico dolce e viscerale, ne esce un efficace sound ruvido, perverso e grintoso. Chiari i loro riferimenti musicali come ci confermano Vas e Ros, le loro radici provengono dal rock dei Led Zeppelin a quello più alternativo dei Pixies, Sleater Kinney, Breeders, ma tengono a precisare la loro curiosità per la tradizionale musica greca. Tra gli attuali artisti in circolazione i loro ascolti preferiti sono le Wild Flag, P.J. Harvey e Bat For Lashes.
In autunno uscirà il loro nuovo album “We Rock Like Girls Don’t Are Asking For It!” e noi non vediamo l’ora di sentirlo. Entusiasmanti e assolutamente brave, intanto, asppettiamo che mantengano la promessa di un loro ritorno in Italia durante l’estate.
We Rock Like Girls Don’t is a female duo (guitar and drums) from London. Their debut album "How Did It Get To This" has been realized in 2009, and currently recording the new album, the two riot girls, feminist and provocative, came to Italy for a mini tour to try out the new material in live set, arriving Sunday, April 1 at the Level Music Club of Ancona. "Still Believe" shows from the beginning their energetic nature, technical quality, but also the very, very big heart of the band. A loud, angry rock characterized by the skill of Vas Antoniadou on drums, perfect in her violent attacks alternated to sudden changes of rhythms, even in the next "Don’t Know What Love Is." "Violence" that opens their first album, is winding and dirty. You can hear all their most important influences, from Sleater Kinney to a P.J. Harvey first manner that Ros Cairney’s voice and interpretation brings to mind.
"Feeling Lonely Now" beginning apparently quit, explodes in an aggressive combination of the two voices perfectly blende, and "Welcome to My World" are two new releases for the next album already
recorded in Seattle with producer John Goodmanson (Blonde Redhead, Sleater Kinney, Bikini Kill, Death Cab For Cutie, Pavement, Soundgarden). They continue in an ever engaging with "Queen of Heavy Metal" and "Something Out of Nothing", this one recorded with producer Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers) in Rockfield, proving to be are overwhelming and very attentive to the structure of the songs.
Pure rock and dirt is "Out Of My System" to a powerful ride reminding Motorhead. It doesn’t seems to era music played only by two girls. The brash rock'n'roll of "Out Of Control" and "Bass Drum" are songs to scream in the car with the windows open racing toward the horizon. But Ros’s interpretation can be also more restless and dangerous like somebody who is not afraid of anything because has nothing left to lose in "Do I Have to Scream."
A band that plays with passion, with rhythmic nerve, a rattling guitar and a versatile voice that goes from screaming of violent emotions to sweet visceral melodies, gives a harsh sound, perverse and gritty. Clear their music references as we confirm Ros and Vas, their roots come from rock of Led Zeppelin to the more alternative of Pixies, Sleater Kinney, Breeders, but they keen to point out their curiosit for the traditional Greek music. Among current artists their favorite plays are the Wild Flag, PJ Harvey and Bat For Lashes.
